Love Doesn’t Count
Love doesn’t count the number of encounters
appointed like stars in the sky,
varying in brightness and clarity,
all eventually fading into the obscurity of freedom, trust and surrender.
Love doesn’t compare one star against another.
Love embraces the significance of the misjudged mundane,
and the uneventful events
(like breathing the same air, and spending our allotted time together),
as the canvas that invites the stars to live and to die.
Oh loving God, perhaps now I understand why you are invisible.
I welcome being with you in the darkness of your love.
Where you invite me to rest and trust, and surrender to you.
Where I need not imagine your tender embrace,
because it is real.
Whether perceptible or not,
it is real.
In fact, what is most real
is that you are the canvas of my life,
and that reality can never change.
