Sanhedrin
If I admit that you are Beloved,
that you are loved and accepted,
as you are,
unconditionally,
then I must accept this reality about myself as well,
and damn it, that’s just too difficult,
just too scary.
I don’t know what that door
will let in or let out,
how I will then be finally, finally
able to let go,
or how my life will change.
Thank you, but no,
I’d rather stay stuck, safe with familiar pain
and this undercurrent of self-loathing.
So shut up, Jesus, I spit in your face.
Your offer of love will just have to wait.
Reflection and Prayer
Ask God for the grace to recall a time when you resisted Jesus’ love and intimacy. Remember the details of the situation, what happened, how you were feeling and how you responded. Express what is on your heart now and allow Jesus to share with you what is on his. Receive the love…now…more completely.
