Blasphemer
I spoke about God as if I really knew,
as if I really knew the One,
the One who is,
who is unknowable.
Oh sure, I can speak of my experiences of God,
and those experiences tell me that
God understands my limitations,
that when I attempt to speak to God,
God hears,
that when I attempt to hear God,
God was already speaking,
but it’s like saying that my affinity for chocolate
correlates with how well I sing,
incomplete,
desperately incomplete.
Have mercy, have mercy oh Beloved,
unknowable, yet the object of my desire.
I am created to seek you,
yet only experience glimpses,
yet only experience glimpses
that lead deeper into the Mystery.
Reflection and Prayer
One gift of God being not completely knowable (mysterious) is that it invites us always to trust and to rely upon God, into a union we could not even comprehend. A simple daily practice can open us more fully to being and doing in the flow of God’s Spirit, just as Jesus lived. For instance, praying “Loving God, what would you like to do with me today?” first thing in the morning and throughout the day will open us to that place of union. Or before any activity throughout the day, especially when it relates to other people, pray “Loving God, let all that is said or done through and with me be of you.” After praying like this, you will be amazed at how God will act through and with you.
