Mine and Ours
Spent time at my personal nature sanctuary.
Being in the expanse of prairie and sky,
breathing with wild bird visitors,
exchanging respect with a bald eagle and bobcat,
receiving the beauty of a Pileated Woodpecker.
Yet most poignant was helplessly watching
an otter effortlessly devour two of my large catfish –
unaware or uninterested that I am observing.
Most poignant is the realization that none of this place,
this life, is mine.
We all have the right to live.
We all have the duty to live together.
